Nexia celebrates Nexia Week 2023 by uniting members and communities through ESG initiatives

London, July 2023

During the week of 17 to 21 July 2023, in a remarkable display of commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship, Nexia, a leading global network of independent accounting and consulting firms, has taken great strides to contribute to the local communities in the cities and countries it serves. Harnessing the power of Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG ”) principles, Nexia member firms have engaged in a multitude of initiatives that not only make a positive impact on the environment but also foster meaningful changes across communities.

With an unwavering focus on sustainability and a deep sense of responsibility towards the communities in which they operate, Nexia’s member firms have spearheaded various initiatives that have benefited the local communities to make the world a better place. Over 65 member firms took part in Nexia Week 2023, which equates to over 12,000 individuals.

With such a diverse range of initiatives undertaken by the Nexia membership, there are too many firms and programmes to mention. However, some of the inspiring initiatives from around the world include:

  • Beach and neighbourhood clean-ups

Through extensive beach cleans and neighbourhood litter picking events, Nexia Samduk (South Korea) , Nexia Pro Audit (Poland ), Nexia Tanzania and Nexia Audirevi (Italy) have actively tackled the pressing issue of litter and waste. These efforts not only beautify local environments but also promote a greater sense of community involvement.

  • Cycling and/or walking to work

Encouraging sustainable commuting practices, Aca Nexia and Sefico Nexia (France), and Davidson & Company (Canada) have launched initiatives promoting cycling and walking to work. These endeavours not only reduce the carbon footprint but also contribute to the overall health and well-being of employees.

  • Homeless support

Demonstrating their compassion for the less fortunate, Nexia Perth (Australia) and its partners have provided aid and support to homeless individuals in their local community. The initiative encompasses the provision of essential resources, food, and access to shelter, aiming to uplift lives and restore hope.

  • Orphanage support and deafblind support

Nurturing a culture of care and empathy, Nexia Agbo Abel & Co (Nigeria), Nexia Levitt Kirson (South Africa) and Nexia Tanzania personnel have been visiting orphanages to spend quality time with children, offering companionship, general operational help as well as contributing to educational and recreational needs. Embracing diversity and inclusivity, Nexdigm (India) has shown unwavering support for Helen Keller Institutes, empowering deaf and deafblind children with education, resources, and opportunities for a brighter future.

  • Planting trees

Nexia’s global office as well as members Nexia Montes y Asociados S.A.S (Colombia), Nexia SSY (Malaysia) and Nexdigm (India) worked hand in hand with local environmental organisations to plant much needed trees to benefit the ecosystem and help avert topsoil erosion. These efforts aimed to combat deforestation, mitigate climate change, and preserve natural habitats for future generations.

  • Plastic free July

Nexia Perth (Australia) and our Italian members Nexia Audirevi, Hager & Partners, TCFCT and CMFC (Italy) have recognised the grave impact of plastic pollution on our oceans and ecosystems and actively promoted the “Plastic Free July” movement. By encouraging employees and associated partners to reduce single-use plastics in their daily lives, these firms led by example to inspire positive behavioural changes on a global scale.

The combined impact of these initiatives is a testament to the immense power of collaborative action. Nexia believes that communities coming together can bring about positive and lasting change not only locally but also on a global scale. By promoting ESG principles and prioritising environmental stewardship, Nexia hopes to inspire others to follow suit and contribute to a sustainable and equitable world.

Nexia Chief Executive Tim Wilson OBE comments: "At the close of 2022, we proudly unveiled our new global strategy, reinforcing Nexia's commitment to ESG and its profound significance in our ever-changing world. Embracing this commitment extends beyond our business endeavours; it resonates with our shared responsibility for the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants.

In the spirit of Nexia Week 2023, we commend the remarkable accomplishments of our member firms, while recognising the obligation of the global accounting community to pave a path for a better tomorrow for generations to come.”
